A geogrid is a modern, affordable solution to soil or landscape reinforcement and stability. It closely resembles an open marsh held together by polymers. Geogrids are made using several materials, including polyethylene, polyester, and polypropylene.
There are different types of geogrids, including:
Woven Geogrids: Woven geogrids are made by weaving, hence the name. This type of geogrid is made by transversing the ribs of polypropylene coated with polyester strands. The crossings are then united by weaving or knitting before adding an extra coating to ensure that the complete unit is well preserved.
Extruded Geogrid: A geogrid that has been extruded is made using polymers that have been stretched or extruded. The integrated structure that results can go either in a biaxial or uniaxial direction, with a geogrid that is quite stiff and stronger than a woven geogrid.
Bonded Geogrids: A bonded geogrid is made by bringing together two or more strands of material at right angles.
